Caesarean birth scars . . After most major surgeries, more likely than not, a patient is referred to Physical Therapy to address any physical/functional deficits. When one’s body is cut open, scar tissue forms to heal the incision and muscles that were affected are often weak. . With a cesarean birth, layers of abdominal muscle as well as the uterus is cut through to access baby. This is a MAJOR abdominal surgery! Yet most mamas are sent home without any further treatment or consideration . ☹️ . Fascia is connective tissue that connects everything internally – when disrupted via cesarean birth , it can get sticky- literally- causing adhesions . This can contribute to pelvic pain, painful sex, suboptimal organ function and pelvic floor dysfunction . . These symptoms are common, but not normal . .
